A tiny little corner of the internet for my personal playlists, poetry, and plenty of nostalgia.

Tulum, Holiday

Traveling around Mexico has been on my to-do list forever, and last month I finally had the opportunity to take a little break and escape.

Though we didn't have too many plans firmed up before we left the States, we knew what we wanted to do - explore cenotes, see Mayan ruins, visit a cacao plantation, lounge at the beach, and eat really good food. Needless to say, the trip an adventure.

First stop: 10 hour layover in Mexico City.

After managing to eat and drink at 3 cafes in the Parque Mexico neighborhood, we were back to the Mexico City International Airport to travel onto Cancun. When we landed, we met up with Amira and took a 1 hour bus ride down to Playa Del Carmen.

After 24 hours of travel, we were finally at our first destination, and stumbled upon a delicious fish restaurant in town.  After eating, we wandered the streets a little bit before crashing at the hotel. Waking up to the ocean the next morning wasn't the worst view in the world, and after a little beachside brunch, we were off to Tulum, an hour bus ride down the Yucatan Peninsula.

After a few days of soaking up Tulum, we hitch-hiked inland to Mérida for 2 nights.

Okay, kidding - we took a bus, and rode through the scenic landscape into Yucatán's capital. In Mérida we went on an all-day tour to see a couple of ruins sites and cenotes.  The tour was highly recommended to us by someone we met the day before, and it was so worth it! I was sick most of the day, but still had some killer views from the back seat of that tour bus.

On the way back from Mérida, stopped in Valladolid for a quick jump into a couple of cenotes, and then it was back to Tulum for our last 2 nights.

I feel moved and also grounded from this special trip to Tulum. I would go back before you can say "latte con leche de almendras, por favor".
